Job Information:
Summary: Under general supervision of physician or APC, the
Orthopedic Technician will perform a variety of functions in
support and care of patients requiring orthopedic care in an
outpatient setting. The Orthopedic Technician will adhere to
infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies.
The Orthopedic Technician will provide basic patient care as
ordered by physician and/or APC, assist physician or APC with
various procedures and maintain compliance with HIPAA and OSHA.
Position Responsibilities:
Provide postoperative care for patients. Remove dressings, sutures
and staples. Complete the postoperative care and instruction
provided by the surgical physician or APC.
Set up location for casting procedures. Apply a variety of plaster
and fiberglass casting, splint, soft goods, skin and skeletal
traction. Cast removal. Assess the patient comfort related to cast
and splints. Responsible for reporting on the condition of the
patient to the appropriate supervisor and other staff members.
Coordinate and assist with care as directed.
Review daily charts to ensure that all lab tests, x-ray reports etc
are in chart prior to visit; assess and collect patient's general
history and document health history, activities, medication
dispensed/prescribed etc. in medical records.
Obtain lab/x-ray reports.
Assist with authorizing scheduling surgical procedures, ensuring
that practice appointment schedule is accurate and appointments are
scheduled appropriately; process prescription renewals; clean and
stock exam rooms.
Set up procedure table, instruments and supplies required for
specific operations.
Assist in the preparation of the patient. Prepare and pass
necessary supplies during the procedure. Decontaminate all
equipment, instruments and supplies.
Assist in maintenance and care of specimens and prepares surgical
specimen form for laboratory analysis.
Patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include
scheduling and organizing patient flow, rooming and vitals.
Communicate physician/APC instructions to patient.
Fit patients with braces and other DME's as ordered by physician or
APC. Prepare injections to be administered during surgical
procedures. Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required:
One year of experience within the last three years in a comparable
job classification required. Required Education: High school
diploma or equivalent. Training/Certifications/Licensure: BLS
