Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Certification
Engineer (Level 2, 3, or 4) to join our team in Ridley Park,
Pennsylvania to coordinate activities for certification tasks which
include compliance documents creation, process auditing, and data
approval in support of airworthiness requirements.
The Certification Engineer in this interdisciplinary role, will
collaborate to plan, develop, and verify balanced solutions for
military programs (domestic and international) to meet the
objectives of military or civil certification/airworthiness
requirements. This position is best suited to individuals who are
self-starters, highly motivated, work well in fast-paced
multi-discipline team environments, and can work with quick
decisions for the best interest of the business.
The successful candidate will work across Boeing, regulator,
supplier, and customer teams to develop and execute certification
strategies. The Certification Engineer will partner closely with
Boeing and other various stakeholders to ensure that certification
deliverables are planned, developed and delivered with quality and
addresses all required certification requirements.
Position Responsibilities:
Coordinate, prepare, and review high-level certification
documentation (Type Certification Basis, Certification Plans,
Certification Review Items, reports, checklists, schedules)
Support the up-front development, interpretation, and understanding
of customer type certification requirements through the
understanding and application of relevant regulations and
airworthiness codes
Analyze and recommend certification requirements for their
applicability to new products and changes to type design
(facilitating major/minor change determination and use of the
changed product rule)
Track requirements allocation and compliance showings/findings to
ensure all certification requirements and regulatory obligations
have been met using Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System
(DOORS)
Support the development of Test and Acceptance (Means of
Compliance) criteria for certification requirements
Work with various teams to ensure accurate completion of
certification targets
Facilitate communication between Boeing, the customer, and
airworthiness authorities
Apply regulatory requirements for continued airworthiness of
vertical lift programs
Provide specialist airworthiness engineering support to new program
standup and development of type certification and continued
airworthiness approaches
Working with other functions to provide the complete life-cycle
requirements and continued airworthiness requirements
Assist with airworthiness reviews of aircraft undergoing
modifications
Assist the development and/or improvement of effective
airworthiness and certification processes and documentation
This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate
will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed
location options. This is at the hiring team's discretion and could
potentially change in the future.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S Security
Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An
interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post Start is
required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills / Experience):
Bachelor or higher degree from an accredited course of study, in
engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or
chemistry
1 or more years of engineering experience (levels/experience in
Typical Education/Experience below)
Preferred Qualification (Desired Skills / Experience):
1 or more years of certification/airworthiness experience
Experience with FAA/EASA or Military Type Certification
Experience with Military Aircraft Airworthiness regulations, to
include the following: MIL-HDBK-516 and implementing military
airworthiness processes, FAA regulations (e.g. 14 CFR 25, 27, 29),
EASA regulations (e.g. CS-25, CS-27, CS-29)
Experience developing certification artifacts (Certification Plans,
Compliance Matrices, Summary Compliance documents, Means of
Compliance requirements and statements, and Certification
Basis)
Experience writing and capturing Airworthiness compliance
requirements and documentation
Experience working with a military customer
Experience with DOORS
Typical Education/Experience:
Level 2
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical
education from an accredited course of study in engineering,
computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor)
and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an
equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g.
Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although
not required, accreditation standard.
Level 3
Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited
course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics,
physics or chemistry. Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more
years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's
degree with typically 3 or more years' experience in an engineering
classification or a PhD degree with experience in an engineering
classification.
Level 4
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical
education from an accredited course of study in engineering,
computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor)
and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an
equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g.
PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work
experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred,
although not required, accreditation standard.

guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience and
qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range for associate level: $87,550 - $118,450
Summary pay range for mid-level: $104,550 - $141,450
Summary pay range for senior level: $128,350 - $173,650

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To
meet export control compliance requirements, a "U.S. Person" as
defined by 22 C.F.R. -120.15 is required.
