Description:Position Summary:The Jewish Federation of Greater
Philadelphia's Kehillah program aims to weave together a vibrant,
collaborative, and interconnected Philadelphia Jewish community.
There are eight Kehillot (Hebrew for community or neighborhood)
throughout Greater Philadelphia. The program focuses on relational
engagement with individuals, families, and underserved communities,
creates a two-way feedback loop between the Kehillot and the Jewish
Federation, and expands the pipeline of potential new leaders and
supporters for the Jewish Federation and the entire Jewish
community. This position sits within the Leadership and Community
Development & Engagement Department of the Jewish Federation. This
person reports to the Director of Community Development. This
position works cross functionally within the Jewish Federation, and
will work in close collaboration with the Jewish Federation
affinity and fundraising team. The Community Engagement Specialist
will focus on relational engagement with individuals, families and
underserved communities, creating a two-way feedback loop between
the Kehillot and the Jewish Federation and expanding the pipeline
of potential new leaders and supporters. The Specialist weaves
together a more vibrant, collaborative, and interconnected
Philadelphia Jewish community.The eight Kehillot are located
in:
- Bucks County
- Buxmont
- Center City Philadelphia
- Chester County
- Delaware County
- Lower Merion
- Northeast Philadelphia
- Old York RoadWe are recruiting for either full-time (overseeing
two Kehillot - Lower Merion & Center City) or part-time (overseeing
1 Kehillah - Lower Merion or Center City). Please indicate in your

include your specific connections with each area.Essential Duties
and Responsibilities:The Community Engagement Specialist supports
either one Kehillah or two Kehillot throughout our community by
focusing on the following areas within each Kehillah:
- Relational engagement: Connect with individuals and families
within their Kehillah to understand their interests and needs, help
them feel like they belong within Jewish community and life, and to
serve as a concierge service connecting them to Jewish experiences
and institutions, including the Jewish Federation. This would
include a focus on underserved populations throughout our community
(ie: Jews of Color, interfaith/multi-faith Jews; Russian and Hebrew
speaking Jews, Jewish individuals with disabilities, Orthodox Jews,
LGBTQ+ Jews, etc). (30% of time)
- Leadership development: The Specialist will identify and engage
leaders throughout the community, in event chair and local board
roles. S/he will amplify voices that reflect the diversity of our
community. Local leadership groups will determine their goals for
the year, in consonance with the Jewish Federation's priorities.
Specialists will also connect potential leaders with leadership
opportunities throughout the Jewish Federation, including
committees, Israel missions, etc. (20% of time)
- Programs and gatherings: Plan and create accessible and
inclusive community-based programs that leverage the power of
shared resources. 2 large gatherings per year (Hanukkah
celebrations, Purim celebrations, festivals) as well as 2 or more
smaller, thematic experiences (Shabbat across a community,
movie/film discussions, facilitated conversations). (40% of
time)
- Jewish Federation integration and communications: The
Specialists are responsible for building and maintaining a digital
presence on Facebook and e-newsletter, where they advance Kehillah
opportunities as well as Jewish Federation opportunities and
messaging. Specialists will help craft and share campaign
fundraising messages that are specifically tailored to the Kehillah
audience three times/year and will work with Jewish Federation's
campaign team to identify potential prospects. (10% of time)The

Requirements:
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills. Able
to get along with and work well with diverse personalities
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
in an environment that requires managing multiple activities and
priorities
- Proven ability to take a project from concept through
completion
- Familiarity with Jewish Traditions with the ability to lead
Jewish events and connect effectively within the Jewish
community
- Basic knowledge of Philadelphia Jewish Community preferred
- Ability to work evenings, occasional Shabbat and Sunday
events
- Ability to think strategically, and approach relationships with
future development in mind.Education & Training Requirements:
- Bachelors degree required,
- Minimum of 2 years of work experience, preferably with
experience building relationships, planning events, and overseeing
projects,
- Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office and social
media applications a plus,Work Conditions & Environment:
- Specialists will work in a hybrid environment, with
approximately one day/week in an office, and the remainder of time
remote and in the community.
