*Description: *
Congregation Ohev Shalom (OHEV) has established a new position dedicated to community outreach and engagement with emphasis on issues affecting older adults. As part of Delaware County, Pennsylvania for over 100 years, OHEV has always had a strong commitment to supporting the wider Jewish and local communities. In recent years, OHEV has pushed itself outside its comfort zones to understand and work on issues of racial and economic injustice in communities beyond those in which most Ohev members live and work. Seniors are the most rapidly growing segment of the Jewish population, the County, and a significant portion of our own congregation, and among the most vulnerable. Making a significant impact to the betterment of our community and pursuing social justice are core values of Congregation Ohev Shalom.

*Social Impact and Community Engagement Coordinator*
OHEV seeks to hire a Social Impact and Community Engagement Coordinator. This professional role is a new position and has been created to strengthen and elevate OHEV's work of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) and other membership/programming priorities.

Successful implementation of our goals for this new role will include:

1. Elevate OHEV's work in pursuing social justice for impact locally. Recognizing that seniors are the most rapidly growing segment of the Jewish population and a significant portion of our own congregation, special emphasis will be placed on ongoing outreach and programming that recognizes the spiritual, social and physical needs of our aging population. The Coordinator will work closely with clergy and lay leaders to:

* Create a holistic approach to developing an ethos of community service and social justice that reaches all of our constituencies.
* Help to develop a coherent philosophy and strategy for OHEV's approach to tzedakah (charity/community service), and tzedek (social justice) that will serve as a guiding vision for Tikkun Olam at OHEV and a reference point for defining the issues and types of engagement OHEV will pursue.
* Identify new opportunities to infuse social impact work across the organization and volunteer cohorts.
* Organize and convene educational sessions for the community addressing social justice issues such as elder abuse and neglect, end-of-life decision-making and guardianship reform. Assist in translating educational sessions into advocacy for change to address social inequities.
* Re-kindle the Hazak Program to engage OHEV's older congregants through programing and social, educational, and spiritual activities.

2. Generate enthusiasm for Tikkun Olam and Social Justice among the congregation

* Deepen personal outreach methods to members of our community, to engage them in social impact programming.
* Mobilize community participation in generating ideas for planning and participating in social impact initiatives.
* Cultivate congregational volunteers to join in the leadership required for this work to be successful

3. Build relationships and partnerships with local agencies, colleges and universities, non-profits, fellow houses of worship, senior residential communities, families with children at Kehillah and coalitions to understand needs in Delaware County, as well as nationally, and ascertain where OHEV's effort can be the most helpful

4. Incorporate Tikkun Olam into existing programs at OHEV

* Organize current programs into a cohesive and easily understood "menu" of opportunities
* Oversee and coordinate programmatic and logistic aspects of this work, with the goal of streamlining OHEV's efforts in this area

5. Promote OHEV's many forms of congregational, local, and global engagement that produce social impact

* Coordinate with OHEV's Clergy, Board of Directors, and communications team to promote and highlight the breadth of programming in this area to our community
* Update our website to ensure that current initiatives are communicated both internally and externally

6. Design and develop new and creative initiatives to keep Tikkun Olam at the forefront of OHEV's engagement efforts

The Social Impact and Community Engagement Coordinator will report to the Executive Director and Board of Directors and will work closely with clergy, leadership, professional staff and volunteers on the design and implementation of social impact programming at OHEV, both those which are already ongoing, and those which will be newly created. The position also requires limited supervisory responsibilities.

*Qualifications and Experience*

* Bachelor's Degree preferred
* Substantive experience in program development and implementation, social action work, community building, community organizing, or comparable work
* Proven capability to cultivate meaningful relationships with individuals and groups, inspiring them to take action
* Experience with, and understanding of, the Jewish community, including its culture, values, and interests
* Enthusiastic and outgoing, a self-starter who is detail oriented, someone able to work respectfully and effectively as a member of a team
* Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
* Proven ability to strategize, set and meet goals, evaluate and adjust based on outcomes
