JOB SUMMARY:The Parent Mentor provides families with the support
they need to build their skills as parents. The Parent Mentor works
with caregivers to bring about constructive change through support,
guidance, and instruction. A Parent Mentor can help caregivers do
the best job possible in raising their children. They will
recognize that safety, permanency, and well-being, both in the home
of origin or other placement setting, are essential to achieving a
positive outcome for children. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Provide
Orientation to new parents who are seeking reunification with their
children2. Offer emotional support, share experiences, and help
parents and caregivers understand the system3. Assist with
supervised visits between parents and children who are working
towards reunification4. Develop events organized to facilitate
discussion amongst parents in the community5. Assist parents in
learning and applying effective discipline techniques6. Function as
part of the larger CUA team responsible for achieving the target
goals of improving safety, permanency, and well- being of children,
youth, and families. 7. Create Life Books for parents and
children8. Assist with budget education9. Perform other duties that
support the mission of APM and the CUA program.KEY

Requirements:
JOB REQUIREMENTS:1. Must have successfully reunified with their
children and youth or successfully stabilized their family and
maintained a safe case closure for a minimum of one year while
benefitting from their experience with the Child Welfare System2.
Or, in the alternative, positively utilized Prevention Services to
keep their family from entering the formal Child Welfare System3.
Waivers of the above may be requested of Philadelphia Department of
Human Services on a case by case basis with appropriate
documentation and rationale4. Proficiency in English and Spanish
preferred.5. Familiarity with the dynamics of diverse populations
in low income areas.6. Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance, Request
for Criminal Clearance, FBI clearances, Valid PA driver's license
and driving record no more than 60 days old. Medical Exam must be
completed within one year of employment.7. Knowledge of social
services, child welfare and family systems services.8. Culturally
sensitive to the needs and diversities of multi-cultural
communities.9. Knowledge of community resources and ability to work
as a team member10. Practices good customer service skills in all
working relationships.11. Experience facilitating public meetings,
and other public forums.12. Strong interpersonal skills,
respectful, and courteous nature.13. Strong writing and oral
presentations skills.14. Must demonstrate genuine empathy and
concern for individuals as indicated in our corporate vision,
mission and values statements.15. Able to work independently,
