Job Description:

In harmony with the PJM vision and mission, the Sr. Trainer supports the overall goals of the State & Member Training Department. This position will have the primary responsibility of teaching and maintaining the markets curriculum. The Sr. Trainer must have practical experience and/or comprehensive knowledge in the PJM markets.
This includes using the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) to collaboratively analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate training content associated with PJM's state and member curriculum. The trainer also works closely with internal SME's across the organization on training efforts related to new initiatives or changes to PJM market and operational rules or processes affecting member participation. Responsibilities include ensuring any changes are rolled into the regular curriculum as updates.
Topics developed cover the full scope of PJM activity and are delivered and targeted to a diverse set of audiences, including various member stakeholders, state and federal regulatory staff and others. The trainer supports the department's efforts in administering the PJM certification, initial training, and continuing training requirements that members need for certification compliance.
Much of the curriculum must be developed and delivered in compliance with the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) accreditation standard, the NERC PER 005 standard, and the NERC Continuing Education program. Trainer may be required to earn and maintain certain industry certifications. Participation, facilitation, and leading member or industry committees, working groups, task forces, or special projects may also be required.
Training events take many forms, including large and small classroom, drills, workshops, and a large multi-week annual seminar. Extensive use of both synchronous and asynchronous online training is also produced and delivered. The Sr. Trainer is responsible for designing and utilizing market simulations to reinforce the principles taught in the markets curriculum.

This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements. - Management will confirm the options for flexibility. - Business needs and/or on-call responsibilities may require you to report to campus.

Essential Functions:

Applies knowledge of or working experience with PJM Markets in the design and development of learning activities.
Leads the development of engaging and interactive learning objects in harmony with the department's systematic approach to training.
Utilizes and designs Day-Ahead and Real-Time market simulations using the GE Market Simulator.
Reads training audiences quickly and accurately to gauge engagement and understanding; is able to adapt approach in the moment to address learner needs
Is able to effectively communicate complex ideas with confidence. This is demonstrated not only by the ability to clearly speak ideas, but to carefully listen, question, and discern audience understanding and engagement with content being presented.
Anticipates and follows emerging trends that will impact the training curriculum, ensuring that training content is maintained for on-going relevance and accuracy.
Conducts regular reviews of training content and incorporates market rule changes in the current markets curriculum.
Able to lead and collaborate on cross functional teams, including internal and external stakeholders, to support the development or implementation of department projects and initiatives.
Engages in continuing education to achieve more knowledge to advance techniques corresponding to teaching the curriculum.
Supports the logistical and coordination efforts related to executing both large- and small-scale training events with the goal of creating a pleasant and effective learning environment and experience for members and stakeholders.
Supports and carries out all tasks related to training documentation and other requirements associated with being a provider of NERC CE and IACET approved programs.
Demonstrates superior computer skills in the use of corporate software, specialized training tools, and various simulator technology.

Characteristics & Qualifications:

BS degree in Engineering, Economics, Computer Science, Energy Business, Finance or equivalent work experience
At least 5 years of work experience with Functional knowledge of the PJM Markets and tools.

Experience with data analysis utilizing SQL and SAS programming.

Experience using effective verbal and written communications skills
Ability to provide classroom instruction, which includes the development, design and continual assessment of lesson plans
Ability to deliver and facilitate training


MBA, Education or equivalent work experience
Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions
Experience with evolving industry regulatory and technical issues as they apply to the PJM system and the role of PJM as an ISO/RTO
PJM Certification and Generation Certified System Operator
