The Physician Assistant, in the Lewis Katz School of Medicines
Department of Medicine/Cardiology is an outpatient clinical
position where the Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant
provides top-quality patient care. This includes performing
interventional Cardio-vascular consultations and longitudinal
patient care, Intervention-related preprocedural H&Ps, and post
procedure follow-up, pharmacologic intervention and patient
education. Opportunities for participation in research and
providing lectures will also be available.
Responsibilities include, Patient care, Independently be able to
perform interventional Cardiovascular patient consultations and
H&Ps, post procedure follow-up patient assessments, and make
patient-specific recommendations, Able to independently examine
patients for post procedure complications based on patient-specific
needs, Able to provide the various therapeutic options for the full
range of Cardiovascular conditions including medications, devices,
and percutaneous interventions. Must be well versed in medications
used in cardiology, especially post interventional anti-thrombotic
agents, Coumadin and novel anticoagulants. Must be well versed in
all different kinds of stents and angioplasties and the therapies
used in these patients, Able to field / triage routine and emergent
patient phone calls for interventional cardiovascular related
issues, Able to provide detailed patient education about specific
cardiovascular conditions and treatment options. Post percutaneous
interventional management, Must be well versed with the different
anti-platelet therapies post procedure, Must be well versed with
the different types of stents and the duration of various
anti-thrombotic agents to be used, Must be familiar with pre and
post catheterizations instructions for patients, Must be familiar
with evaluation of complications of interventions like access site
bleeding, allergic reactions etc, Must be well versed with
reviewing coronary and peripheral angiograms and non-invasive
studies. ECG / Rhythm Strips / Holter Monitor Strips, Must be able
to independently interpret the above strips for arrhythmias and
other cardiovascular conditions, Participate in clinical and/or
translational research, Provide education on a variety of
interventional cardiovascular topics including one-on-one mentoring
as well as small and large group lectures/presentations, Performs
other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
Certification as a Physician Assistant within the Commonwealth of
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Demonstrated proficiency in the operations of clinical equipment
and standard office equipment.
*Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency in all applicable
*Working knowledge of all applicable computer software.
*Strong written and verbal communication skills.
*Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a
diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and patients.
*Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time
effectively, and prioritize multiple tasks.
*Exceptional leadership skills.
This position requires a background check.
