Job Description:
Job Description The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for
ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-centered
care across all areas of operation in a hospital setting. This role
provides leadership, oversight, and coordination of nursing
services to maintain appropriate staffing levels, operational
continuity, and compliance with organizational policies and
regulatory standards. The Nursing Supervisor works collaboratively
with the Assistant Vice President of Nursing/Patient Care Services
and the Vice President of Nursing/Patient Care Services to
facilitate effective nursing practice and organizational goals.
Nigh Shift: 7:30PM-8:00AM (3x12s) Essential Responsibilities Plans,
organizes, and directs nursing services to ensure continuity,
quality, and safety of patient care across all assigned units and
departments. Coordinates the effective utilization of professional
nursing staff, ancillary personnel, support services, and equipment
to meet patient care needs efficiently and competently.
Demonstrates strong critical thinking and clinical judgment in
assessing situations, identifying problems, and implementing timely
and effective solutions. Interprets, communicates, and enforces
organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to
nursing staff to ensure consistent and compliant practice. Provides
ongoing informal education, coaching, and on-the-job training to
nursing staff to promote professional development, safe nursing
practices, and adherence to standards of care. Assumes
responsibility for the Nursing Department in the absence of the
Assistant Vice President for Patient Care Services and the Vice
President for Patient Care Services. Addresses performance and
conduct issues through appropriate counseling and disciplinary
actions as warranted, and recommends ongoing or progressive
disciplinary measures to the Assistant Vice President for Patient
Care Services and the appropriate Nurse Manager. Ensures adequate
and safe staffing levels during emergency situations, including but
not limited to inclement weather, disasters, or unexpected surges
in patient volume, to prevent compromise of patient care.
Communicates effectively and professionally with staff, patients,
families, visitors, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members
to promote collaboration and patient satisfaction. Supervises,
evaluates, and supports unit-based nursing staff in assigned areas,
ensuring adherence to clinical standards, policies, and best
practices. Serves as a leadership resource and point of contact
during off-hours, providing guidance and decision-making support as
needed. Qualifications and Requirements Education Required:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher. Preferred: Master’s
degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
Must have clinical experience Licenses & Certifications Required:
Current and valid New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Skills and Abilities Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks,
priorities, and projects simultaneously at various stages of
development. Strong organizational and time-management skills with
the ability to set priorities in a fast-paced healthcare
environment. Proven leadership, supervisory, and decision-making
skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both
verbal and written. Ability to work independently while
collaborating effectively with senior leadership and
interdisciplinary teams. Commitment to maintaining high standards
of patient care, safety, and professional nursing practice.
