/n /n Work Schedule: Day/Night, rotating weekends, holiday and
on-call. /n The Profess Staff Nurse, OR Expert I is a Registered
Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. The Profess Staff
Nurse, OR Expert I is responsible for Operating Room
responsibilities as detailed herein. The Profess Staff Nurse, OR
Expert I works on complex surgical procedures in the Operating
Room. The Profess Staff Nurse, OR Expert I establishes and
maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health
care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired
patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.
Responsibilities: /n /n - Patient advocate. /n - Ability to
circulate and scrub surgeries. /n - Maintain Sterile environment.
/n - Acquire knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
/n - Documentation of care provided to patient. /n - Performs
charge nurse role and runs OR service line in absence of the
clinician. /n - Performs scrub role (requirement for RNs hired on
or after July 1, 2023). /n - Required to take mandatory call
nights/weekends. /n - Belongs to at least one department or
hospital committee. /n - Demonstrates knowledge of department
fiscal requirements. /n - Participates in decision-making
activities related to evaluating and acquiring surgical equipment,
instruments, and supplies. /n - Collaborates with other health care
professionals in the development of surgical budgetary
requirements. /n - Demonstrates skills in organizing and
coordinating the effective use of personnel and materials. /n -
Develops, organizes, and delivers continuing education topics and
courses. /n - *Performs in accordance with system-wide
competencies/behaviors. /n - *Performs other duties as assigned. /n
/n - Minimum 4 years experience. Annual completion of a
professional contribution selected from department, hospital or
system gals, and approved by Unit Director AND either UPMC approved
nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and
must be maintained. Certification from the UPMC Wolff Learning
Academy Center for Nursing Excellence required within 1 year of
hire/transfer and must be maintained. Certification not required if
Master's in nursing or DNP is held. If a BSN is held, a Master's
degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of
Certification. /n - Ability to establish and maintain positive,
caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians,
non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other
departments, and patients/families. /n - Ability to work
productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle
multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment. /n -
Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and
problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of
patient care. /n - Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise
and to lead others in application of the nursing process. /n -
Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent
walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients. Licensure,
Certifications, and Clearances: Basic Life Support OR Cardio
Pulmonary Resuscitation Registered Nurse Current licensure as a
Registered Nurse either in the state where the facility is located
or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the
state where the facility is located. CPR required based on AHA
standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration
component within 30 days of hire /n - Basic Life Support (BLS) OR
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) /n - Registered Nurse (RN) /n -
Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal /n - Act 33 with renewal
/n - Act 34 with renewal /n - Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal /n
/n *Current licensure either in the state where the facility is
located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate
Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license
issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees
working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their
residency to the state where the facility is also located will have
60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within
