Job Functions
Assessment Skills: Possess competent knowledge of all the normal
stages of growth and development from Pediatric to Geriatric and
deliver patient care appropriately. Perform thorough assessments
that are systematic, comprehensive, and accurate.
Clinical Skills: Consistently demonstrate competent clinical
skills. Perform direct patient care activities in support of
patient care delivery and team concept. Provide competent and
appropriate nursing care to the population of the unit. Demonstrate
knowledge and skill of emergency equipment and procedures.
Documentation: Maintain complete and accurate documentation.
Demonstrate knowledge of documentation guidelines. Assume primary
responsibility for documenting components of the nursing process
and patient's progress toward meeting outcomes in the patient's
chart, including patient education.
Professionalism: Demonstrate professional practice responsibility.
Demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures and identify areas
for clinical and professional growth.
Patient Satisfaction: Consistently respond to patients, families,
and co-workers in a professional, courteous, positive manner to
promote an environment where the patient and family are at the
center, and the patient care team works cooperatively toward their
goals and objectives. Maintain confidentiality according to HIPAA
guidelines.
Safety: Consistently follow the National Patient Safety Goals,
including following Universal Protocol and identifying patients
utilizing 2 patient identifiers. Demonstrate the use of safe
transfer techniques and proper body mechanics for self and
patients.
Unit Specific Job Function: Demonstrate knowledge of the
conditions/diagnoses, procedures, and equipment encountered for
surgical patients. Individualize patient care according to the
procedure and type of anesthesia across the continuum of care.
Assess patient reaction and understanding of
procedure/instructions.
Responsibility and Accountability: Contribute to the perioperative
team by assuming responsibility and accountability for directing
patient care by prioritizing the care of patients depending on
their needs and any changes in their condition.
Patient Education and Chart Completion: Assess patient's
understanding of surgical procedure/instructions, actively
including the patient and family members in teaching. Perform
pre-operative and postoperative assessment and education.
Duties Specific to PAT RN: Support the completion of patient
testing in a timely manner. Evaluate Pre Admission Testing (PAT)
orders for appropriateness and for potential omissions based on
proposed surgery, patient age, and current state of health.

Education
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Associates or Bachelor's Degree - Preferred
