Job Description:
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Division of
Emergency Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the Perelman
School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek
candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in either
the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track.
Applicants must have an M.D. or equivalent degree. Board
Certification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine is required.The next
Division Chief will lead one of the largest and most successful
pediatric emergency medicine programs in the nation and will be
expected to participate in patient care, teaching, and scholarship.
The Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine has over 75 faculty
with diverse clinical, educational, and investigative interests, as
well as at least 15 Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellows,
affiliations with a dozen local residency programs that send close
to 300 annual trainees to rotate in our EDs, an Advanced Practice
Provider workforce of 40, along with 25 pediatricians that function
in various roles across our 3 EDs.The Division Chief reports to the
Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and works closely with the
other Division Chiefs, the Associate Chairs, and the Vice Chair in
the Department of Pediatrics along with a dedicated Senior Director
of Physician Practice Administration.The Division Chief will
oversee the clinical, research, and educational activities of the
Division, lead recruiting efforts in the Division, and ensure
career mentoring for all faculty and fellows in the
Division.Teaching responsibilities may include participating in the
clinical education of medical students, residents and fellows as a
member of the Division of Emergency Medicine. Mentoring of trainees
(including fellows and graduate students) in area of applicant's
interest. Mentoring of postdoctoral fellows, students, and fellows
and supervision of research staff.Clinical responsibilities may
include providing direct patient care in our Main Philadelphia
Campus Emergency Department that has an annual volume of 100,000
visits. Clinical employment opportunities in Pediatric Emergency
Medicine are also being offered at both our clinical affiliate
institutions, Virtua Voorhees, in Southern New Jersey and our new
King of Prussia Center in King of Prussia, PA. The distribution of
clinical activity at CHOP and the designated clinical affiliate is
negotiable and can be tailored to the interests of the
applicant.Research or scholarship responsibilities may include
knowledge of current ED studies and participate in patient
enrollment, as needed. Additional research responsibilities include
establishing a portfolio of collaborative and independent research
related to identified field of interest within Pediatric Emergency
Medicine, serving as primary author and co-author for reports and
manuscripts, serving as principal investigator and co-investigator
on federal, state, and foundation grant efforts.We seek candidates
