Reports to: Director of Nursing Overall Responsibility The purpose of this position is to aid in managing and overseeing the operations of the assigned departmental areas. The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership across designated departments, ensuring compliance relating to the practice of veterinary medicine and the hospital standards of care by department team members. The Nursing Supervisor is also responsible for creating an environment of teamwork in which quality medicine is delivered.In partnership and collaboration with the Medical Director, Director of Nursing and with the assistance of the respective Department Heads and Leads, the Nursing Supervisors will work to plan, lead, and coordinate positive change as it relates to the office activities, and oversee the standards of care of the respective specialty departments. Nursing Supervisors play a role in helping fulfill the MLAH mission and vision as well as assist in creating direction for the practice. ResponsibilitiesCoach and train employees in respective departmentsConduct formal corrective actions for any behavior or performance not consistent with the hospital mission or valuesRecruits and hires quality candidates for open positions within their departments and ensures a smooth onboarding and training period to ensure new hire retention.Responsible for tracking time/attendance and coordinating ETO approvals with respective departments.Work alongside employees and assist with hands on training where possibleProvide input on employee performance and merit-based increases and bonusesAssist with developing onboarding objectives and participate one on one with the onboarding process as it pertains to the respective departmentAssist in the formulation of objectives and policies to ensure efficient departmental operationsConduct 90 day, quarterly and annual evaluations with input from respective Department Head and Lead to:Assess technician and potential candidate skill sets - deficits, strengths, fit for particular department, etc.Develop goals and training objectivesCoordinate departmental meetings with respective Department Head and LeadAttends all management level meetings either in person or virtually as required.Disseminate relevant information to additional staff and doctors as indicatedFoster communication and collaboration between departmentsImplement protocols and best practices within assigned departmentsOversee cleanliness, safety and maintenance issues of the facility and equipment and provide summary of findings and suggestions to appropriate manager. Staff Management: Professional and Support StaffMentor and work with departmental staff to ensure an atmosphere of cooperation and mutual respect.Track performance reviews, maintain employee files including writeups, med errors, and training milestones for respective departmentsAssist staff where necessary and foster an educational environment.Collaborate with HR and Managers to select qualified staff for the department (i.e. working interviews). Perform interviews for respective departmentsProactively identify solutions to overcome unexpected volume, delays, staffing shortage, etc.Coach leads in the department regarding expectations and performance and lead by exampleWork Collaboratively with designated managers as needed to assist with disciplinary and Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) within departments.Expected to help enforce hospital policies while on the floor and act as an example for the rest of the staff, regardless of department.Requirements and Qualifications5+ years working as a veterinary technician.Associate Degree, Veterinary Technician.CVT or LVT required or successfully obtain certification within 1 year of hire.Experience in a supervisor or lead role preferred.May be required to additional hours beyond regular clinical work schedule to accomplish the duties of the position.Occasional weekends and holidays required.Physical RequirementsThis job requires frequent bending and standing for long periods of time.Compensation and BenefitsCompensation is based on experience and skill level.
