Job Description Summary
The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of
unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the
face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage
for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating
The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of
Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative
vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as
the "go-to" organization for public and private partners, who want
to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are
positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish
pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic
applications of in-vivo genome editing.
Continuation of all GTP positions is contingent upon funding.
Due to continued growth of our program, we are searching for a new
Director, Laboratory Resources to support our 3 GTP locations.
As the Director, Laboratory Resources, you will provide innovative
leadership for teams at each of the 3 GTP locations focused on
laboratory resources and supply chain management supporting
standard research, GLP/GMP studies, manufacturing programs, and
animal research. You will collaborate with the Senior Director to
develop and update standard operating procedures, maintaining high
quality standards around purchasing strategies for research
supplies. You will train and develop your teams to deliver superior
service to all GTP leadership and employees and adhere to all
safety protocols while doing so.
--- Laboratory Resource Management: The position oversees all
operational and planning aspects of supply chain management for
research supplies. You will manage the purchasing, receipt and
storage of all common supplies and work with research groups to
manage specialized materials. You and your team will be responsible
for maintaining an inventory database that supports supply
inventories across all GTP sites. The Director will work closely
with strategic sourcing to ensure GTP is receiving competitive
--- Materials Logistics: You will oversee the movement of materials
to/from, between and within sites. This will include supervising
loading dock activities, tracking materials and confirming
deliveries. The Director will also work with outside vendors and
UPenn to manage shuttle service between sites to ensure adequate
transportation for people and research samples.
--- Vendor Management/Liaison with UPenn teams: Communicate
directly with vendors and UPenn purchasing teams to establish and
maintain working relationships, request quotes, and troubleshoot

- A Bachelor's Degree and 7+ years of experience working in a
- 2+ years of experience with ordering scientific supplies and
equipment and managing supply inventories.
- GLP/GMP experience strongly preferred.
- Must thrive in a team environment, have excellent written and
oral communication skills, ability to deal with multiple
constituencies (faculty, technicians, vendors, University
departments, etc), ability to prioritize in a fast-paced
environment, and proficiency with standard methods of data
