The hospital provides comprehensive medical services through approximately 25,000 emergency room visits, 8,200 inpatient admissions, and more than 500 community outreach programs annually. The Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner assesses, plans and provides patient care under the direction of a cardiothoracic surgeon. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing patient histories and physical exams, seeing patients in the office setting, performing in-office procedures within the scope of practice, assisting the surgeon in preoperative care, providing CTOR first assisting services, monitoring patients post-operatively, conducting daily patient rounding, participating in the on-call rotation, and prescribing medications and ordering tests as needed. Communicates and consults with the supervising physician regarding the medical status of patients, and communicates with patients and family members effectively, providing appropriate education. Maintains a working relationship with the interdisciplinary team, including RNs, physicians, case managers, and others. Relies on experience and clinical judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.
