Essential Functions Assesses and supports the learning, social, and
emotional needs of students. Advises, educates, and supports
teachers, parents, and other education professionals. Counsels and
meets with parents about issues of concern.
Shares responsibility in designing, planning, and implementing
courses on various topics for parents, teachers, and others
involved with the education of children and young people. May lead
a student activity, such as mindfulness and/or study skills. Leads
student support process as necessary, which may include brief
individual and group counseling, creating and monitoring positive
behavior modification plans, and consulting about and observing
students at the request of teachers, division head, or parents.
Coordinates and oversees the Middle School learning support
program. Manages concussion and extended absence protocols. Attends
all faculty, grade-level, and other meetings as requested by the
division head. Provides and recommends professional development for
faculty as requested by division head/Head of School. Maintains
student records of psycho-educational evaluations in a confidential
and HIPAA-compliant manner and appropriately shares relevant
information from these reports to necessary teachers and
administrators. Establishes and maintains a positive and normative
presence in the lives of Middle School students.
Serves as a member of the Middle School Administration and attends
all meetings and events required of that role, including during
evenings and weekends.
Liaises with outside professionals consistently. Coordinates
information with professionals outside of school who are working
with our students, collaborates with families to secure needed
services for students, and communicates goals and expectations with
everyone involved. Conducts brief standardized behavioral and/or
academic assessments of students as needed, such as the BASC,
Conners 3, and WRMT-III, and communicates the results with families
and teachers. Participates in the Admissions process, committee,
and other initiatives as requested. Builds and maintains positive
and professional relationships with faculty and staff and
collaborates with division head and deans regularly. Responds to
all communications from parents, students, teachers, and
administrators in a timely manner, usually within 24 business
hours. Is on-call during off-school hours for crises as determined
by the Head of School and division head, responds to email or text
when not in school, and is a member of the Safe2Say Something team.
