Job Description:
About the American Board of Internal Medicine: Since its
founding in 1936 to answer a public call to establish more uniform
standards for physicians, certification by ABIM has stood for the
highest standard in internal medicine and its 20 subspecialties.
Certification has meant that internists have demonstrated-to their
peers and to the public-that they have the clinical judgment,
skills and attitudes essential for the delivery of excellent
patient care. ABIM is not a membership society, but a
physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization.
ABIM's accountability is both to the profession of medicine and to
the public. ABIM certifies approximately one out of every four
physicians in the United States; there are currently more than
220,000 ABIM Board Certified physicians. About the ABIM Foundation:
Created in 1989 by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM),
the ABIM Foundation develops and implements projects in support of
its mission to advance medical professionalism to improve
healthcare. The Foundation collaborates with physicians and
physician leaders, medical trainees, healthcare delivery systems,
payers, policymakers, consumer organizations, and patients to
foster a shared understanding of professionalism and how they can
adopt the tenets of professionalism in practice. The Foundation's
current focus, Building Trust, aims to elevate the importance of
trust as an essential organizing principle to guide operations and
improvements in healthcare through research, discussions, events,
practice challenges and more. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The
President and CEO ("CEO") for the American Board of Internal
Medicine ("ABIM") and the ABIM Foundation ("the Foundation") is the
chief visionary and executive officer. In service to the mission of
both organizations, and in close partnership with the ABIM Board of
Directors and the Foundation Board of Trustees, the CEO is
responsible for the overall leadership and engagement of
high-performing, dedicated organizations and the unwavering
stewardship of their resources. The CEO serves as the primary
spokesperson for, and champion of ABIM and the Foundation, actively
pursuing opportunities for collaboration within the ever-changing
and diverse healthcare environment. Reporting to the Boards of ABIM
and the Foundation, and managing a senior executive team comprised
of physicians, scientists, and operational leaders in non-profit
and assessment operations, the CEO is responsible for the
following: Transformational Leadership and Strategy: The CEO
defines clear, mission-aligned strategic and operational goals and
an ambitious vision for ABIM and the Foundation. They leverage
their authenticity and expertise, cultivate empathy, and build

executive operational leadership for diverse and agile
organizations as they embrace innovative transformation. For ABIM,
this work is specifically focused on developing and enhancing

of providing exceptional patient care. Relationship and Coalition
Building: The CEO will continue to build and nurture new and
existing external relationships with various stakeholders-keeping
their perspectives open to and aware of untapped opportunities for
collaboration-in support of advancing the missions of ABIM and the
Foundation. Mission Alignment: Principled, focused, and with an
openness to adapt to the evolving healthcare ecosystem, the CEO
will support and champion the mission and values of ABIM and the
Foundation through a demonstrated commitment to patient-centered
care, diversity, and innovation. Talent Management: The CEO
enthusiastically supports the recruitment and ongoing engagement of
top talent from a broad range of industries and backgrounds. The
CEO is the chief culture officer, supporting an inclusive and
diverse community of professionals inspired by ABIM and the
Foundation's strategic and operational goals, with an affinity for
the missions of both organizations. PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS AND
