NBME is seeking a Program Manager for the Licensure Programs Unit, with a focus on the United States Medical Licensing Examination - (USMLE -). The USMLE is a three-step examination for medical licensure in the U.S. The USMLE assesses a physician's ability to apply knowledge, concepts, and principles, and to demonstrate fundamental patient-centered skills, that are important in health and disease and that constitute the basis of safe and effective patient care.

This position reports to the Director, Program Management. The Program Manager leads initiatives of high complexity that require collaboration across various units and organizations, and support program strategic initiatives and priorities. The incumbent will play an integral role in securing the integrity of the exam and ensuring exam policies are clearly communicated and enforced. This individual will ideate, advocate, and implement process improvements with support of management as well as coordinate publications and communications about the program.

  • Collaborate with other staff to investigate issues relating to exam security, gather evidence and provide documentation of the same; prepare related custom correspondence, reports, communications, and informational materials; liaison between examinees, attorneys, cross-unit partners and internal and external stakes holders. This position will work closely with legal and collaborate with other staff to prepare security cases for committee review.
  • Collaborate with team on policy research, development, and interpretation in support of governance and program staff; provide support for pre- and post-governance committee meeting tasks including preparation and development of agenda materials, taking meeting Minutes, custom correspondence, high stakes document QC, and pre/post-meeting data entry.
  • Responsible for processing high stakes examination policy exception requests from examinees, state medical boards or other stakeholders. This includes review, research, interpretation of exam program governance guidelines and approving or denying the request; prepare custom responses. Research and respond to other escalated inquiries from examinees and stakeholders.
  • Lead teams or serve as subject matter expert for strategic initiatives and priorities; ideate, advocate, and implement process improvements with support of management; build and maintain relationships with intra- and inter-institutional partners and other stakeholders; coordinate publications and communications about examination program; and other duties as necessary and appropriate.
  • Collaborate with team on strategic initiatives that drive customer satisfaction; participate in development of solutions to customer experience problems and implementation of solutions to improve customer engagement.
  • Lead or support initiatives related to the operational components of USMLE. Work closely with other units and partner organization to develop program strategies and achieve operational objectives.
  • Provide a high level of accessibility to internal team members and customers. Resolve routine and non-routine problems and issues or effectively triage them to other units or organizations as appropriate.
  • Keep current on a wide range of issues related to high-stakes testing, medical education, and medical licensure; share knowledge for the benefit of other staff.
  • Effective, courteous, and timely investigation/resolution for all routine and non-routine policy exception requests and escalated issues.
  • Accurate and well-maintained reports, records and documentation for all policy and project related work. Output is tracked and coordinated, deadlines are met.
  • Demonstrate the ability to organize and prepare materials for governance in a timely, well-organized and informative manner.
  • Efficient and cost-effective use of allotted resources for program.
