Job Description Job Description HVAC/R Technician Reports to: HVAC/R Service Manager Primary Function Our mechanical company is growing rapidly, and we are currently seeking an experienced HVAC/R Technician to join our team. In this position, the technician will be responsible for all aspects of commercial and industrial installation, maintenance, inspection, operation, alteration, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC systems and equipment. Responsibilities & Duties Inspect, repair, modify, and install HVAC equipment including refrigeration and air conditioning compressors, receivers, condensers, chillers, water cooling towers, forced-air converter units, pumps, automatic and hand valves, expansion valves, and capillary tubes. Conduct regular preventive maintenance inspections of refrigeration units, heating and ventilating units (including boilers), gas and electrically operated air conditioning equipment, and make necessary adjustments or repairs; service and repair evaporative coolers. Repair or replace defective parts in units and equipment and their controls, including thermostats, automatic switches, fan controls, log switches, damper motors, louvers, relays, filters, controls, belts, compressors, heat exchangers, high-limit controls, pressure controls, safety valves, and automatic gas valves. Operate hand and power tools, welder torch, vacuum pump, and test equipment utilized in the trade; operate a motor vehicle; maintain equipment and tools in safe, effective working condition. Repair and rebuild semi-hermetic reciprocating screw compressors and compressors for centrifugal refrigeration machines. Perform skilled electrical maintenance work in the repair, installation, and alteration of HVAC equipment, components, timers, motors, and wiring systems; connect motors to control panels. Test and examine boiler operations, observe meters and pressure gauges, conduct boiler water quality tests, apply water treatment, and adjust boiler burner combustion. Lubricate and pack motors, pumps, fans, and other related equipment. Install and calibrate systems; install copper tubing and repair pipes; test joints; insulate pipes; flush boilers; descale tubing; rebuild safety valves and water pumps. Install, rebuild, replace, or repair fans, motors, thermostats, fuses, filters, bearings, valves, controls, gaskets, and other equipment. Maintain records of time, labor, and materials; maintain logs and complete reports as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Maintain regular attendance. Ability to lift 75 pounds unassisted. Ability to perform physical requirements including walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, and kneeling. Ability to work in tight spaces. Work safely at various heights. Safely maneuver up and down ladders. Operate tools and equipment according to safety procedures. Safely operate forklifts, man lifts, and material lifts. Follow established safety procedures and techniques. Complete all required paperwork promptly and accurately. Participate in on-call rotation. HVAC Qualifications & Skills Valid driver’s license Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate Knowledge of: Standard HVAC and refrigeration practices Theory of HVAC and refrigeration systems Materials, methods, and tools used in HVAC/R repair and operation Applicable state and local HVAC, refrigeration, and boiler codes Manual and electrical tools used in the trade Brazing and soldering techniques Health and safety regulations, including proper storage of materials and equipment Ability to use hand and power tools effectively 3 years of technical and trade experience Able to work independently and as part of a team Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills Daily completion of work orders Excellent communication skills Strong time-management and record-keeping abilities Equipment Used Hand and power tools Specialized HVAC/R machinery, equipment, and tools Brazing torch and welding equipment Heavy equipment (e.g., forklift, scissor lift) Light truck or van
