Description:Duties include the installation, alignment, operation and repair of diesel and gasoline engines, fire pumps, air driven reciprocating and centrifugal twittering and oil shifting pumps, air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration equipment, liquid-blast engine and pump, drill presses, lathes, milling machines, boring mills, grinders, etc. Overhauls, services, repairs, adjusts, and maintains mechanical equipment as required.1. Must be skillful in the operation of machines and hand tools necessary to perform repairs in an efficient and economical manner. 2. Shall be knowledgeable in machine and mechanical principles and be able to locate sources of defective operation or cause of breakdown. 3. Shall be able to use all hand tools and measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc. 4. Must have a good knowledge of blueprints and manufacturers' specifications, to be able to disassemble and repair tools and equipment. 5. Shall be able to instruct Machinist/Mechanic Helper when assigned.6. Must qualify to wear a respirator.7. May be required to travel up to 25% to conduct company business. 8. Must know all Standard Operating Procedures pertaining to environmental protection.9. Assist in the receipt, moor and departure of vessels. 10. Adhere to all corporate core values, policies and procedures in the execution of all responsibilities.11. Must be able to work effectively with co-workers in a professional manner at all times.12. Must be available to work overtime if required.13. May be exposed to sharp edges, fall hazards, hazardous chemicals and conditions, poor illumination and inclement weather.14. Shall handle weights to 100 pounds with an average of 50 pounds and carry up to a distance of 200 feet. 15. Work phase is normally moderate with short periods of high activity during power outages, severe weather or ship movements. 16. Position requires climbing of vertical and inclined ladders and brief periods in strained positions, such as kneeling, stooping or maneuvering in close quarters. 17. Must observe safety precautions and ensure compliance in safety.18. Other work as assigned and which the employee is qualified and able to perform in support of other trades or evolutions required for safe operation of the site and proper execution of contractual requirements.Additional Skills & Qualifications:Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalency. Four (4) years of relevant ship or industrial mechanic machinist experience. Must have graduated from an accredited vocational/education training center with a minimum minor in diesel engines. Must have a valid driver's license and qualify to operate government/company vehicles in accordance with the Corporate Fleet Vehicle Safety Manual.Preferred: Four (4) years of experience serving in a Navy Engineering rating or Armed Forces Diesel Engine Repair Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). GENERAL INFORMATION:In order to perform the essential job functions of this position, the successful candidate must understand tools and their uses, basic electricity, the tagout safety precautions and the danger of energized equipment. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Must be able to read small print and hear sufficiently to detect unusual sounds in motors, blowers and running machinery.
