Job DescriptionTHIS POSITION REQUIRES A CURRENT VALID PENNSYLVANIA CERTIFICATION IN MATH GRADES 7-12. ANY CANDIDATE NOT MEETING THIS REQUIREMENT CANNOT BE CONSIDEREDPOSITION SUMMARY: Energetic and enthusiastic educator for the instruction and educational needs of educationally disadvantaged youth who assist students in experiencing success in the classroom by adapting content material for various levels of students. The Teacher uses a variety of teaching methods to facilitate the learning process, develops and evaluates daily differentiated lesson plans that correspond to approved curriculum and various functioning levels of students. Possesses considerable skills in the remediation of classroom behaviors and the ability to present an appropriate adult role model conducive to the effective teaching and treatment of behavior disordered youths. May provide Safe Crisis Management and utilize manual restraint techniques to youth who weigh up to 250 pounds and are verbally or physically threatening, out-of-control, or otherwise presenting a threat to themselves or others. The Teacher reports to the Principal.QUALIFICATIONS:A Bachelor degree and appropriate state certification in content area.The ability to create a flexible instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students assigned to the classroom, to motivate pupils to develop attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for learning, in accordance with each pupil's ability; to establish good relationships with other staff members. Skill in both oral and written communication. Mastering of VisionQuest orientation and staff training curricula. Must be able to demonstrate competency in the written and physical assessment testing for Safe Crisis Management.RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:Competencies are listed under the following headings:

  • Occupational Competencies.Technical Competencies:MULTIDISCIPLINARY TREATMENT TEAM FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIESUniversal competencies for all multi-disciplinary team members incorporating knowledge of treatment philosophies, modalities, influences and approaches specific to adolescent populations including their incorporation into appropriate service selection, treatment planning and documentation.Treatment Philosophy & Modalities - Possesses basic knowledge of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Guided Centering, Equine Assisted Therapy, therapeutic elements of Adventure Based programming and Path of Honor, and uses the relevant terminology and approaches in all interaction with youth and staff as primarily assessed through formal/documented education and training/prior experience and supervisory review/observation.Cultural Diversity –
    • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to diversity issues and recognizes triggers, biases, and beliefs, and does not allow them to interfere with treatment, service delivery, and the performance of the job as primarily assessed through supervisory review/observation and peer/team review.
    • Assist staff with identification of triggers, biases and beliefs that may interfere with work environment as primarily assessed through peer/team review.Adolescent Specific Knowledge –
      • Has working knowledge of normal child and adolescent development including: physical changes and concerns, emotional growth, social development and cognitive development as primarily assessed through supervisory review/observation and clinical record review.
      • Demonstrates working knowledge of communications skills used to foster positive growth including active listening skills as assessed primarily through supervisory review/observation.
      • Possesses knowledge of contemporary influences on adolescents including gangs, sex, pop culture, family stressors as primarily assessed through formal/documented education and training/prior experience, and supervisory review/observation.
      • Possesses basic knowledge of at least the behavioral attributes of the following diagnosis: ADD, ADHD, PTSD/Trauma, depression, ODD, bipolar, anxiety and conduct disorder as applied to adolescents as primarily assessed through formal/documented education and training/prior experience, and clinical record review.
      • Possesses basic knowledge of psychotropic medications prescribed for children and adolescents, and their use in treatment in order to provide objective data as primarily assessed through formal/documented education and training/prior experience, and clinical record review.Treatment Services –
        • Demonstrates skill in the development of individualized productive therapeutic relationships based on knowledge of the youth’s treatment goals, educational goals and relevant objectives as primarily assessed through supervisory review/observation.
        • Implements individualized academic goals in accordance with education plan as directed by the Principle, Superintendent and/or Special Education Teacher as primarily assessed through supervisory review/observation.
        • Provides instruction to youth in accordance withCentering Treatment Plan as directed by the Therapist as primarily assessed through supervisory review/observation.Therapeutic Relationships - Demonstrates a strength-based approach in the development of positive therapeutic relationships with youth, displaying empathy, respect, support, and problem solving as primarily assessed through supervisory review/observation.Youth Supervision – Maintains accountability of youth to program norms and schedule including adherence to positive peer culture, schooling, and extraordinary experiences as primarily assessed through supervisory review/observation.Safe Crisis Management – Demonstrates ability to provideSafe Crisis Management through appropriate de-escalation techniques and the use of safe physical interventions to protect the safety of the youth and staff as primarily assessed through critical incident reporting and the Lodge Professional Standards Committee.High Risk Youth – Identifies youth requiring additional therapeutic support including: significantly disruptive youth and those who are a danger to themselves or others and reports behaviors to supervisors and/or Licensed Mental Health Professionals as assessed through supervisory review/observation and clinical record review.SPECIFIC EDUCATION FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIESIndividualized implementation of educational treatment goals, objectives, and therapeutic interventions. Maintains positive peer culture and norms. Demonstrates knowledge and use of strength-based interventions and cognitive behavioral approaches and integration of VisionQuest Treatment modalities.Classroom Management –
          • Performs daily classroom instruction, and complies with State Law and District policies and regulations for students as primarily assessed through daily lesson plans and supervisory review/observation.
          • Develops and evaluates daily differentiated lesson plans and instructional material, and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs and various functioning levels of students as primarily assessed through clinical record review and supervisory review/observation.
          • Uses a variety of teaching strategies as well as coordinated non-classroom interactive and experiential learning activities to facilitate the learning process as primarily assessed through supervisory review/observation.
          • Utilizes cooperative learning and evidence-based instructional strategy, to promote both academic and social skills learning and development as primarily assessed through supervisory review/observation.
          • Maintains a safe environment for students conducive to learning as primarily assessed through supervisory review/observation.
          • Models lessons for students, uses effective Classroom Management techniques, and establishes, shares, and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere as primarily assessed through supervisory review/observation.
          • Anticipates and effectively addresses unforeseen crises associated with working with groups of children as primarily assessed through supervisory review/observation and incident report review.
          • Refers youth who require a more comprehensive educational assessment for evaluation for special education services as appropriate as primarily assessed through supervisory review/observation and clinical record review.
          • Creates a positive and attractive learning environment through the use of visuals and displays of students’ work as primarily assessed through supervisory/management observation.
