Job Description:
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of
Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of
Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an
Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure clinician educator
track. Expertise is required in the specific area of molecular test
development and next generation sequencing is required. A strong
preference will be given to applicants with experience building
microbiology testing capacity in a global health setting.
Applicants must have an MD and/or PhD degree and have demonstrated
excellent qualifications in clinical care. MD applicants must be 1)
board certified in Clinical Pathology (AP/CP or CP) or Pediatrics
and Infectious Disease; and 2) have board certification/eligibility
in Medical Microbiology through the American Board of Pathology or
the American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM). MD applicants
must additionally be eligible for a medical license in the state of
Pennsylvania. PhD applicants must be board-eligible or certified by
the ABMM. Teaching responsibilities may include participating in
the training of Clinical Microbiology and Pediatric Infectious
Diseases fellows at CHOP and may include teaching other learners,
including residents, medical students, and clinical laboratory
scientists. Clinical responsibilities may include assisting with
laboratory oversight in the IDDL and providing consultations
regarding microbiology testing. Research or scholarship
responsibilities may include test development and validation to
support outbreak investigations, global medicine, and other
outreach testing. Responsibilities with Global Health will include
supporting the growth of clinical microbiology capacity in CHOP's
key global health partner countries including Botswana, the
Dominican Republic and Ghana. This will include a variety of
approaches including site-visits to partner countries, teaching
in-country colleagues, participating in implementation science and
public health projects and serving as a global health microbiology
consultant for the CHOP Global Health Center. This individual will
serve as an Assistant Director of the Infectious Disease Diagnostic
Laboratory (IDDL) and will be a liaison to the CHOP Global Health
Center. The position will be based within the Division of
Laboratory Medicine at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Apply
