We are currently looking for a passionate Special Education Teacher to join the YSCS team in SY 22-23 and work with us to Imagine New Possibilities in Education. The Special Education Teacher in this role will provide instruction to classified students in accordance with each student's IEP. ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain relationships with local public, private, charter, and parochial high schools; Conduct meetings with students and families to prepare them for the high school application process, tailoring sessions for an arc of learning and engagement from 6th through 9th grade; Establish relationships with 9th grade counselors to support a successful transition to high schoolLead alumni focus groups and events to inform programming and foster community amongst YSCS alumni; Lead information sessions and events on different aspects of the high school cycle; Use a variety of techniques or methods to gather information to determine students' need of services and evaluate program needs; Participate in weekly student support meetings with school staff and collaborate with instructional staff to support students who need specific academic counseling; Monitor the progress of goals every quarter and write progress updatesSupport Student Led Conferences, Student Portfolios and Career Plans in partnership with the Director of Experiential LearningLiaise with students, school staff, family and community agencies to provide workshop opportunities and a set of topics aligned with school needQualifications and SkillsA belief that ALL students should be held to high academic standards; Resilience and professionalism; Ability to build strong relationships and work with different stakeholders; Exceptionally strong strategic thinking; Excellent communication both verbal and written; Commitment to school transformation and continuous improvement; Open to feedback and coaching; Strong sense ofpersonal accountability for student achievement; Collaborative approach to problem solving.Educational Background and Work ExperienceA master's degree in school counseling and appropriate licenses; At least 2 years' experience as a School Counselor, preferably in an urban middle school setting.The Rewards Competitive salary and benefits package; Professional collaboration with grade and content teams; Weekly coachingand ongoing professional development; 1:1 Chromebooks in every classroom; Google Education platform for online assignment management; The opportunityto maximize your impact in schools where we are raising the bar for student achievement.COVID-19 Overview - Young Scholars Charter School is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy school environment as we transition back to in-person learning.
