By focusing on professional skills that improve over time and are not lost when administrations, buildings, or curricula change, CLI helps create a sustainable culture of continuous improvement that introduces children to the joys of reading, writing, and life-long learning.Position Summary: Children's Literacy Initiative (CLI) is recruiting for Multi-Site Literacy Coaches who are committed to equitable and culturally responsive education, to be critical members of our Team!The role of Literacy Coach is a position of instructional leadership within our District partner schools. CLI's Literacy Coaches provide one-on-one coaching, design and deliver compelling professional development sessions and work closely with K-5 teachers across School District of Philadelphia (SDP) in-person and virtually. We are seeking experienced elementary educators who are committed to ensuring that Black and Latinx children receive a high quality education. The ideal candidate should have experience implementing a range of early literacy best practices in K-5 classrooms, some coaching/mentoring experience, a deep commitment to anti-racism and a passion for teaching & learning.While employed by Children's Literacy Initiative, Literacy Coaches work daily within multiple SDP schools where they are an integral part of their school's literacy strategy. Literacy Coaches rely heavily on data and work collaboratively with District Leadership and teachers to increase instructional content knowledge and pedagogy; affirm teacher/child identity; build literacy skills and foster children's intellect and criticality.Responsibilities-- Serve as a literacy leader on the school's literacy team and network leadership team-- Drive an instructional vision focused on foundational literacy skills development-- Provide teachers with coaching, modeling, and co-observations to improve and refine teaching practice-- Build trusting and collaborative relationships/rapport with various stakeholders and have the ability to navigate potential barriers to the relationships-- Use school, teacher and student performance data (formal and informal) to design, coordinate and facilitate coaching/PD to increase teacher expertise and ultimately student development-- Provide clear and direct feedback to teachers based on analysis of practice and track student and teacher progress to assess the effectiveness of coaching-- Develop teachers' capacity to collect and analyze multiple sources of data to improve student learning-- Take ownership for the development of your skills (reflect, implement feedback, engage in active practice, etc.)-- Deep commitment to anti-racism and educational equity and the building of an organization that reflects the community CLI serves; ability to hold self and others accountable for centering equity*Hours will vary depending on assigned school's hours of operation. Average of 7.5 hrs./ day*The Literacy Coach will report directly to a Literacy Supervisor.Qualifications The successful candidate is motivated by our mission. This role offers the opportunity to have a profound and lasting impact on literacy, thus, achievement.-- At least four years of successful teaching experience, preferably in urban setting(s)-- At least two years of successful coaching or leadership experience preferred-- Degree in early reading and foundational literacy (i.e. print concepts, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, etc.) strongly preferred-- Current on best practices in literacy with an emphasis on the science of reading-- Deep commitment and willingness to act on dismantling white supremacy and systemic racism in schools-- Experience exploring issues of identity, bias, and racism while celebrating the genius of Black and Latinx individuals; empowering teachers/children to use acquired skills to engage in reflection, activism and ally ship for Black and Latinx children strongly preferred-- Demonstrated expertise in ability to facilitate virtual coaching and professional development (as evidenced by experience using a variety of distance learning online platforms; video conferencing platforms and other virtual teaching & learning best practices)-- A strong track record of facilitating teachers/children toward instructional improvement-- Experience designing and leading compelling and relevant professional development-- Excellent written and oral communication-- Deep knowledge of SDP's comprehensive literacy framework and essential pillars for instruction-- Deep understanding of how to administer and analyze Aimsweb Plus as well as other district assessments-- Exceptional organizational skills and ability to track progress, understand gaps, execute tasks, etc. with an acute attention to detail-- Deep willingness to embrace change, be a team player, demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, and strive for continuous development of self and others-- PA Teacher Certification preferred-- Ability and willingness to travel to multiple school sites in the city of PhiladelphiaChildren's Literacy Initiative is an Equal Opportunity EmployerJob Type: Full-timePay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per yearBenefits:
