Job Description:

The Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center (SKCC) in partnership with the Department of Medical Oncology is--seeking a new Vice-Chair at the Professor level who will serve as the academic and administrative head of--the Department of Medical Oncology Jefferson Northeast Division. The Vice-Chair will be a nationally or--internationally recognized expert in the field with an active clinical, translational or basic research--program. This position will provide leadership and oversight on the administrative and operational,
programmatic, educational, clinical and research activities of the Department through effective planning,--performance improvement, and fiscal management. The Vice-Chair will provide ongoing supervision and--evaluation of the quality of clinical care, medical staff effectiveness, and the delivery of inpatient and--outpatient clinical activities to ensure the highest level of clinical care service for patients and their--families. Working closely with the SKCC leadership, the individual will be involved in designing and building--academic programs consistent and aligned with the requirements for NCI cancer center designation,--identifying new growth opportunities, and assuring the maintenance and continuous assessment of--consistently high-quality performance of care to enhance referral relationships and support cross--disciplinary academic programs.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a physician scientist leader to lead a department during a--transformational period of growth of the Cancer Center and realize their vision of a research driven world--class program. This vision will be supported by a strong and dedicated commitment by the SKCC Director--and a large commitment of resources to grow the Department of Medical Oncology. The Vice-Chair will--report to the SKCC Director and the Chair of the Department of Medical Oncology. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBI L ITIES
-- With the SKCC Director, to develop and implement the SKCC strategic (research, clinical, business)
plan which will integrate with that of the Department Medical Oncology.
-- Direct overall faculty management of the department by developing and implementing clinical
programs identified in SKCC strategic plans, integrating and coordinating care delivery throughout the
department and across the health system, and assessing the feasibility of new programs, products,
and services.
-- Develop and implement programmatic goals for the department, including leading and managing
performance improvement activities.
-- Monitor critical clinical success factors for the department, including financial indicators, customer
satisfaction, quality, and compliance with goals.
-- Monitor faculty productivity with respect to research, publications, peer reviewed extramural
funding, and active participation in enrolling patients to clinical trials.
-- Serve as key contact point for faculty issues related to the department by regularly interacting and
communicating with clinical leadership, physician clinical operations, system quality improvement,
senior leadership, and other service and department leaders.
-- Establish, coordinate, and maintain an organizational structure which promotes multi-disciplinary
collaborative practices, participatory involvement, innovation, fiscal accountability, strategic planning
and development, outcome-focused goal setting, adequate and effective resource allocation,
community involvement, and customer service.
-- Develop, implement, and evaluate programs to promote the recruitment, retention, professional
development, scholarly activity and continuing education of department faculty.
-- Serve as mentor to clinicians and researchers of all stages in the department when appropriate.
-- Oversee the development of the Department's annual academic operating budget, develop cost
containment strategies and monitors the disbursements and generation of funds in the department
on an ongoing basis.
-- Participate in SKCC and the Department of Medical Oncology Jefferson Northeast Division research
and clinical activities, residency and fellowship training, and participate in tumor boards. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
MD or equivalent degree from an accredited professional school
Board certified in Medical Oncology, current license to practice medicine
Five (5) or more years as a senior leader of clinical operations with a successful track record
demonstrating increased strategic responsibility in a complex, academic healthcare organization
Record of excellence in patient care
Strong research background
Strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to build strong, sustainable partnering relationships
Demonstrated experience working with and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student
environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member
Preferred Qualifications

  • Physician investigator with research training beyond MD degree such as PhD or research fellowship
  • Demonstrated leadership in division, program or institute of an NCI designated cancer center with a--proven track record of success in the rol
  • Ten or more years of administrative experience leading a complex clinical program/department,cancer center/institute
  • Proven track record in managing clinical trials
  • Proven track record of peer reviewed extramural funding
  • Extensive publication record in peer reviewed journals
