Job Description:
Community Legal Services, Inc. of Philadelphia is a non-profit
public interest agency providing free civil legal services to
low-income Philadelphia residents. As the largest provider of free
civil legal services in the Philadelphia area, CLS is both locally
and nationally renowned as a premier legal services provider
dedicated to ensuring access to justice for all low-income
individuals and communities. CLS has ten legal units covering a
wide range of civil legal services. In addition, CLS has a robust
Administration staff covering departments such as Finance,
Development, Human Resources/Operations and IT.CLS is seeking a
Staff Accountant to join the CLS Finance Department. This a
full-time position. The Staff Accountant will join a diverse and
enthusiastic team of fiscal administration professionals whose job
it is to ensure that CLS's budget and fiscal processes are sound
and meet all necessary and widely accepted accounting standards.
The Staff Accountant will report directly to the Director of
Finance and work on a team with other fiscal professionals, as well
as have periodic interaction with the Operations/HR team in
overlapping areas of work. The position's responsibilities are
detailed below.Essential Responsibilities:* Perform various types
of payment request reviews and post expense transactions to general
ledger (GL) accurately and within the payment schedule* Process
cash disbursements via check issuance, domestic EFT/ACH transfers,
and perform related follow-ups and confirmations.* Perform routine
GL account reconciliations as part of monthly closing procedures
for all assigned programs and projects* Reconcile and process
monthly credit card statements and payments* Respond to project and
vendor inquiries related to expenses and disbursements* Any other
responsibilities deemed appropriate and necessary by the Finance
DirectorAdditional Responsibilities Include, but are not limited
to:* Manage 1099 reporting and vendor records* Assist in
preparation of schedules to support financial audits* Assist with
preparation of Form 990 and other tax/regulatory returns and
related tax reconciliation schedules* Assist the team with general
ledger reconciliations and special projects as needed* Act as
backup to other staff on the Finance team Required Skills and
Experience:* A degree in Accounting, or related fields* Three or
more years of relevant professional experience maintaining books
with non-profit organizations* Intermediate proficiency with basic
Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)* Intermediate
proficiency with accounting software (SAGE- Fund EZ)* Experience
with full-cycle GL and AP accounting processes* Must have a strong
work ethic, be well-organized and a self-starter* Strong
problem-solving skills, documentation skills, data analysis,
research and resolution skills* Excellent verbal and written
communication* Ability to work independently and within teams in a
fast-paced and high-volume environment with an emphasis on accuracy
and timeliness* Ability to manage and make progress on multiple
projects simultaneously * Ability to perform mathematical
computations such as percentages, fractions, addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division quickly and accurately* Strong
entrepreneurial spirit and resourcefulness that spurs innovation
and problem solving* Emotional maturity and strong professional
acumenOther Highly Preferred Skills and Experience:* Bachelor's
degree in Accounting, or related fields* Experience in
philanthropy, nonprofit management and/or business* Experience with
Microsoft Dynamics GP* Experience or familiarity with Concur
Solutions and Adobe Pro* Experience managing federal
grants/contracts* Experience with lobbying rules and regulations*
Advanced Excel skillsCLS staff are currently working remotely due
to the COVID-19 pandemic. When staff return to in-office work, the
staff accountant will be based at CLS's 1424 Chestnut Street office
